‘Filles de la Misericòrdia’

Pere Fullana directs this work based on real testimonies of women who lived their childhood and adolescence in the Misericòrdia hospice in Palma and in other similar ones in Barcelona, Valencia and Zaragoza.

Before our eyes a tapestry of ghosts spreads where we discover the story of four girls, but also of their mothers, their daughters and other characters around them.

Angelines, originally from another province, is hospitalized there by her parents who cannot support her. Esperança, granddaughter of victims of the Civil War, is sent to la Casa de Misericordia by her mother to keep her away from her abusive father. Magdalena loses her mother during childbirth and is hospitalized by her father, who due to her mental problems ends up committing suicide. María José is rejected by her mother, who gives her up for adoption to a family that also rejects her and she ends up hospitalized in Misericordia.

The four women weave a story of friendship and survival in the midst of stale Catholic education, the dangers of the chaotic eighties and their own family circumstances, to build their own lives based on mutual support and, despite everything, hope in the future.

Filles de la Misericòrdia is a co-production by the Teatre Principal de Palma, Teatro del Temple, Albena Teatre and Iguana Teatre performed by Anna Berenguer, Rebeca Del Fresno, Catalina Florit and Irene Soler. Catalan language. Recommended age: from 12 years.
