The great American jazz singer Stacey Kent arrives in Mallorca to present her new musical project, Songs From Other Places, at the XVI edition of the Jazz Voyeur Festival. A captivating and eclectic collection of voice and piano duets featuring songs by Paul Simon, Jobim, Weil & Gershwin, Lennon & McCartney, Stevie Nicks, plus two new Tomlinson/Ishiguro originals. With themes in English, French and Portuguese.
A sublime performer, Stacey Kent's repertoire goes far beyond her jazz roots. A French-speaking grandfather introduced the young Kent to poetry, which led her to earn a degree in comparative literature from Sarah Lawrence College in New York. A chance meeting at Oxford with Jim Tomlinson led her down the path of music and to the Guildhall School of Music, where her love of poetry continued to drive her artistic vision.
The Balearic artist in this second concert of the Jazz Voyeur Festival 2023 comes from Formentera. This is Imaràntia, the duo formed by Miquel Brunet and Maria Josep Cardona. They present RetrUc, a particular view that allows Pitiusa music to be revived.
Since its inception, the Jazz Voyeur Festival has been synonymous with high quality. Its director Roberto Menéndez, passionate about this musical genre, has been in charge of putting together a program that has contributed to elevating the local music scene and has managed to bring jazz fans from all over the world to discover Mallorca.
This sixteenth edition offers five concerts from November 4 to December 15, 2023, plus a Music and Film Series and four master classes taught by the main artists that make up this year's lineup. Both the music and film series and the master classes are free of charge.
