A film and photography series taking place at the Teatre Sa Societat during May. This event is part of Calvià, Year of Cinema, a municipal strategy that positions the audiovisual sector as a key driver of economic, cultural, and tourism diversification for the town.
The series is part of the Atlàntida Film Fest, a festival renowned for combining cinema and critical thought, with previous editions in Palma and Berlin, as well as the Mallorca PhotoFest. The initiative proposes a reflection on the relationship between photography and film under the premise of "The Unsubmissive Image: From Materiality to Politics," exploring everything from experimental avant-gardes to visual practices linked to memory, social commentary, and the construction of new perspectives.
The program, curated by Sofia Moisés, addresses key figures such as Man Ray (dadaism and surrealism, whose work understands cinema as a material extension of photography) and moves towards contemporary uses of the image as archive, testimony and critical tool.
