May 30th is celebrated as the "International Day of Families," a date proclaimed by the UN to recognize the importance of the family as the fundamental unit of society. This day aims to raise awareness about the role of the family, considered the basic unit of society, allowing for reflection on its importance in raising children, fostering positive relationships, and providing mutual support. It also recognizes the value of grandparents as an important part of the family.
The celebration is significant in educational, social, and institutional settings. During this day, activities are held that promote values such as respect, solidarity, and cooperation within the family environment. Various family models are highlighted, recognizing the diversity and importance of each type of family as a fundamental pillar of society.
The purpose of the event is to recognize families, celebrate this significant date by spending "family time", share it in society, promote family life, encourage learning through games and activities for children and adults, and boost community participation in physical, cultural and recreational activities.
Activity Programming
- 10:00 to 10:20 hours: Musical performance by Bloco Ayan to kick off the event.
- 10:30 to 12:00 hours: Self-Defense Workshop for Families. A practical workshop where families learn basic self-defense techniques, taught by Elena Cavana and Eduardo García, instructors of Goshin and Karate.
- 12:30 to 13:30 hours: Yoga session for families, led by instructor Laura Signo from the Bienicon Association. A gentle physical activity for all participants.
Simultaneous activities throughout the event
- Popular and indigenous games: A space dedicated to traditional games that promote intergenerational learning and enjoyment. In collaboration with the Consell de Mallorca.
- Activities for children (3 to 6 years old): Stimulation of motor skills and creativity through face painting workshop, drawing workshop, constructions, psychomotor circuit and ball pit.
- A prehistoric house: A cultural outreach workshop where children learn about prehistory through play. A space for symbolic play to imagine and recreate daily life in a prehistoric house, discovering the importance of essential tasks for the survival of communities. In collaboration with: Sa Morisca Archaeological Park.
- Storytelling about Children's Rights and crafts: The Council for Children and Adolescents promotes the rights of all children and adolescents. The activities include a storytelling session related to these rights and a craft activity where participants create postcards about family, stimulating their creativity. In collaboration with the Social Welfare Service and Estudi6.
- Information point and inclusive activity: Information and support about autism spectrum disorder is provided through an interactive information and psychoeducational space, along with a children's area for younger children. In collaboration with the Balearic Islands Asperger Association.
- Badge making workshop: An activity where participants create their own personalized badges for Family Day, aimed at both adults and children. The badges can be customized, colored, and assembled. Organized in collaboration with the Youth Service.
- Educational activity on road safety: Learning about traffic rules where children can participate with bicycles or scooters and helmets, through a closed circuit. In collaboration with the Local Police.
- Police drone demonstration: The police drones will be unveiled and flown to demonstrate their work.
- Free cartoon service: Caricaturist Toni Bibi will create portraits so that attendees can have a personalized family keepsake.
