Inca brings back one of Mallorca's loveliest autumn traditions: hollowing out a melon, watermelon or pumpkin, turning it into a lantern and parading it through the streets as night falls. 🏮🎃
The Festa de les Llanternes is a family event organised by Inca Town Council with Inca Cultura, Obra Cultural Balear, the Colla de Gegants d'Inca and the Bufaires Xeremiers d'Inca.

6.00 pm · Lantern workshop in Plaça de Santa Maria la Major, where children hollow out and decorate their fruit until it becomes a lantern.
7.00 pm · Cercavila, a parade with the lit lanterns to the Claustre de Sant Domingo, with giants and Mallorcan bagpipers.
Storytelling: the evening ends in the cloister with Contes de llum, cuques i fanalets, tales of light, fireflies and lanterns.
🎃 What to bring
A melon, watermelon or pumpkin · a spoon to hollow it out · a short, wide candle · one metre of string or ribbon.
🍂 An autumn tradition
Hollowed-fruit lanterns are a very Mallorcan custom of early autumn, when the last melons of the season are still around. A simple way for children to make their own lantern and discover Inca's old town after dark.
ℹ️ Good to know: arrive a little early for the workshop and bring your fruit already chosen. The activity is in Catalan and suitable for all ages.
