‘Chega Saudade’

The 17th edition of the Jazz Voyeur Festival has scheduled the screening of two documentary films at Es Baluard Museu d’Art Contemporani about Tom Jobim, the sovereign master of the transformation of Brazilian popular music.

The first of these is Chega Saudade, a journey through the history of Bossa music that begins with its genesis in 1947 with the song that for decades was called Valsa sentimental and goes through the events, the evenings, the meetings and the creations that later marked its growth and evolution until it acquired its definitive forms.

Directed by Roberto de Oliveira, the documentary approaches with elegance and generosity three basic areas in the existence of the artist Tom Jobim: the origins and the primitive architecture of Bossa music, Jobim’s intense relationship with his natural environment and the fascination and influence that his beloved Rio de Janeiro exerted as the only possible setting for the birth of his work.

He also had his apotheotic concert on Copacabana Beach on New Year's Eve 1996, where he brought together artists of the stature of Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Milton Nascimento, Buarque, Gal Costa and Paulinho da Viola to pay tribute to the maestro.
