The fourth program of the 16th Pianino Festival is very special, as it includes a lecture by renowned Swiss musicologist Jean-Jacques Eigeldinger, a concert by pianist Roy Howat, and the presentation of the English edition of the book Inside and Around Chopin's Preludes, written by J.J. Eigeldinger and translated into English by Roy Howat himself. It is produced and published by the Cell of F. Chopin and G. Sand of the Cartuja de Valldemossa.
It begins with a short lecture (40 minutes) by Jean-Jacques Eigeldinger, in French and translated into Spanish, entitled Chopin: et sa création musicale à Majorque.
Taking advantage of the fact that Eigeldinger will be speaking about the compositions written by Frédéric Chopin in Mallorca during the winter of 1838-1839, Scottish pianist and musicologist Roy Howat will perform a large portion of them on the 1851 Pleyel grand piano preserved in the F. Chopin and G. Sand Museum at the Charterhouse of Valldemossa.
The works to be performed will be:
Nocturne, Op. 37 No. 2
Mazaruca, Op. 41 No. 1
Preludes Nos. 4, 6, 9, 13, 15, and 17
Ballade No. 2, Op. 38
Polonaises, Op. 40 Nos. 1 and 2
Scherzo, Op. 39 No. 3 in C# minor
The XVI Pianino Festival programs eight concerts to be held in the Celda de F. Chopin and G. Sand de la Cartuja de Valldemossa from February 1 to October 5, 2025.
