In 1955 Rafael Tur Costa (Santa Eulàlia des Riu, 1927) met the members of the Hochschule Für Bildende Künste in Berlin, a group of German fine arts students that put him in touch with the artistic approaches of the European avant-garde. Four years later The Ibiza 59 group was formed, with which he maintains a constant relationship.
His first works are abstract, to give way in the decade of the seventies to the concern for matter and textures, which he has maintained throughout his career.
