Cinema and its relationship with music is one of the ingredients of the Jazz Voyeur Festival program each year. In this its thirteenth edition, the film series is dedicated to the music of the Italian composer Enrico Morricone, who passed away last July.
The second of the three films being screened is The Mission, a 1986 British feature film directed by Roland Joffé with a script based on a little-known historical incident between colonialists and Jesuits during the 18th century in the Amazon jungle.
The soundtrack composed by Ennio Morricone was nominated for an Oscar in 1986 and won the Golden Globe for best soundtrack. The title track, Falls remains one of the composer's most memorable pieces.
The rest of the films in the cycle are Sacco and Vanzetti (November 11) and Cinema Paradiso (December 2).
