‘Picasso (rey, monstruo y payaso)’

In 2023 it will be the 50th anniversary of the death of Pablo Ruiz Picasso (Málaga, 1881-Mougins, France, 1973). A celebration used by the company Rhum&Cia to present the montage Picasso (rey, monstruo y payaso) (Picasso (king, monster and clown)).

Picasso, the great winner of the 20th century, painter, bohemian, and fascinating, lives a constant tribute after his death. But an unexpected visitor arrives at his anniversary party, the clown troupe Rhum & Cia. And with them, a poet and a circus chronicler, an old friend of Picasso, Ramón Gómez de la Serna. Ramón likes mysteries. What is Picasso hiding behind his Harlequin mask? Why did he dream about Minotaurs?

Ramón and company invoke a labyrinth of friends, women and legends that made Picasso a myth. A wonderful altarpiece where the emperor of artists undresses and disguises himself at the same time.

Picasso (rey, monstruo y payaso) interrogates the story of a painter who went through different eras and styles, but he does so in the key of Rhum&Cia: A staging as careful as it is fun, with some touches of joyful melancholy.

With dramaturgy by María Folguera and direction by Joan Arqué, Picasso (rey, monstruo y payaso) is played by Jordi Martínez, Joan Arqué, Piero Steiner, Mauro Paganini, Queralt Albinyana, Xavi Lozano and Lluc Armengol. Language: Spanish. Recommended age: from 14 years.
