The music and the voice of Enrique Morente sound once again in this show by choreographer and dancer Victor Ullate, with texts by García Lorca and premiered in September 2005 in Zaragoza. Ten years after that première, and five since the death of Enrique Morente (Granada, 1942-Madrid, 2010), El Sur returns to the theaters in a tribute to the flamenco cantaour and with the voice of his daughter, Estrella Morente.
El Sur tells the story of Estrella a woman victim of contempt and violence by her husband, Antonio. This encourages her to find freedom and love in the arms of another man, Bernardo. But hatred will end up tragically reaping the illusion of the lovers whose feelings survive even beyond death.
Victor Ullate (Zaragoza, 1947) is considered one of the most complete on the international stage dancers. He has received important awards throughout his career, including the National Dance Award (1989), the Gold Medal of Merit in Fine Arts (1996) and Max Award of Performing Arts (2007).
