From September 1 to 27 in Palma a program of activities is developed to mark the European Day of Jewish Culture, held on 2 September. Throughout this day there will be a big variety of events with the involvement of the Jewish Community of the Balearic Islands.
Activities include the guided day of open doors to the synagogue in Palma, guided tours through the medieval Jewish neighborhood, Sephardic cuisine, an exhibition of books on Jewish culture, a Jewish market, the Francisco Garcia Fullana concert with pianist Oscar Caravaca and screening of the film Els xuetes, crònica dels jueus conversos de Mallorca (the Chuetas, chronicles of the converted Jews of Mallorca), directed by Antoni M. Tomas.
The xuetes form a social group in Mallorca of descendants of some of the Mallorcan Jews who converted to Christianity, carrying some of the surnames pursued by the Spanish Inquisition.
