It is a classic in the Mallorcan summer: the Torrent des Pareis concert promoted by the Obra Social 'Sa Nostra "Caixa de Balears. This year it celebrates its 50th anniversary with performances by the Choir of the University of the Balearic Islands and the Mallorcan group Cap Pela.
Founded in 1976 by its director Joan Company, the Choir of the Universitat de les Illes Balears has become a leading exponent of the music in the Balearics and a coral reference in Spain.
They have performed in major theaters and concert halls of Spain and in different countries of Europe and America. It has a repertoire of over 600 compositions of the full scope of universal choral literature, from Gregorian chant to contemporary music to pieces by Balearic composers, a cappella music of all times and the great works of the symphonic –coral repertoire
Cap Pela was created in Palma two decades ago and today is one of the most highly regarded throughout Europe. They have a very unique repertoire as they version in a cappella their favorite themes of pop-rock and famous movie soundtracks, like they did in one of their albums, Moon River (2011).
Cap Pela Initially consisted of twelve members, but today it has been reduced to six: Esther Barceló (soprano), Sofia Domènech (soprano), Begoña de la Iglesia (contralto), Carol Domènech (contralto), Guillem Ramon (tenor), Santiago Francia (tenor) and Joaquim Domènech (low).
