This trio is led by Cuban Aruán Ortiz, pianist, violinist, composer, educator and excellent producer. Classically trained, he is marked by the influence of contemporary classical composers as Schoenberg, Ravel and Bartok, but also by the traditional Afro-Cuban music and jazz greats like Bud Powell and Thelonious Monk.
Their most recent album is Banned in London (2012), in collaboration with Michael Janisch Quintet. In 2012 they also recorded Textures and Pulsations, with pianist Bob Gluck, and Santiarican Blues Suite, with José Mateo Ballet Theatre, considered a contemporary classic masterpiece by the press.
Aruán Ortiz arrives at Jazz Sa Pobla Mallorca with his trio format, accompanied by Rob Garcia (drums) and Raynald Colom (trumpet).
