Around 15 August, in many churches of Mallorca are installed catafalques and beds that represent the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. These sets, together with processions, novenas, music and other manifestations of popular character, are remnants of a ritual protocol that had its peak in the Baroque period.
ARCA and Fundació Amics del Patrimoni organize a cultural program that will be developed during the month of August in temples and villages of Palma de Mallorca. In addition to the exhibits of the beds, also will be celebrated initiatives such as the Mostra de la Mare de Deu d'Agost (exhibition of the Mother of God) curated by James Llabrés and Aina Pascual (12 to 23 August).
Coinciding with the tenth anniversary of the installation of El lecho de la Mare de Deu (the bed of the Mother of God) in the Church los Sagrados Corazones de Palma artists Yannick Vu and Ben Jakober have created the contemporary installation El viaje celestal(the heavenly journey), which can be seen from August 11 to 20.
