Two historic defenders of democracy, freedom and human rights come together to give a lecture under the title of The new Latin America.
Ramonet (Pontevedra, 1943) is a Spanish journalist who has spent most of his career in France, where he directed Le Monde Diplomatic, which Spanish edition he now leads. As one of the most important figures of the anti-globalisation movement, one of his militant editorials encouraged the emergence of ATTAC (Association for a tax on speculative transactions as assistance to citizens).
Chao (Lugo, 1935) went into exile in Paris with the idea of studying piano, and ended up dedicated to writing. Journalist and writer he was correspondent of the magazine Triunfo and literary critic of Le Monde Diplomatique, and also masterminded the creation of the Juan Rulfo Award. He is the father of musician Manu Chao.
