Until now, the Diada de Mallorca was celebrated on September 12, but this year it is coincident with the Festa d'Estandar on December 31st. This festival commemorates the conquest of Palma by Rey Jaume I in 1229, after centuries of Arab domination, and its celebration dates back to the thirteenth century, being one of the oldest civil festivals in Europe.
The program of activities begins on December 8, with an act of the regional houses at the Teatre Principal in Palma, and during the whole month numerous, very interesting cultural proposals will be carried out: music, theater and conferences, among others.
One of the most outstanding activities is titled A Diada para descubrir la historia de Mallorca (to discover the history of Mallorca), which consists of didactic workshops and guided visits to sites, Talayotic villages and museums of fourteen municipalities of the island.
