Mezzo-soprano and pianist, respectively, Elena Gragera and Anton Cardo cultivated one of the most demanding genres of concert song: the German lied. Both are formed along with maestros as Irmgard Seefried and Gérard Souzay, and their dilated careers make them two of the most qualified Spanish interpreters to address this repertoire.
The program for this concert is composed of four masterpieces: the songs on poems by Heine Schwanengesang of Franz Schubert, the cycle of poems by Mary Stuart put to music by Robert Schumann at the end of his life, the reflections on the life and death of Johannes Brahms shortly before his death, from texts of the Bible translated into German by Luther, and the last three lieder composed by Hugo Wolf before ending his brief but extraordinary career as a creator.
The concert is part of Music Season CaixaForum Palma and of the complementary activities to the cycle of lectures Adioses.
