It takes place on December 31 in Palma and commemorates the conquest of the city by King Jaume I in 1229 after centuries of Arab domination. Its celebration dates back to the thirteenth century, so it is considered on of the oldest civilians festivals in Europe.
Cort Square is the scene of the ceremony of laying the Royal banner of conquest of Mallorca and the crest (animal figure that crowns the helmet of the Knights) King Martí (10:15 h.). After this ritual comes the traditional representation of La Colcada, a poem written by Pere Alcàntara in 1861 that describes how this festival was held in the 19th century (12:00 h.).
The day before, on December 30, there is a concert by the Banda Municipal de Música de Palma (19:00 h.) and various civil society organizations and public agencies carry out an offering of flowers to the statue of King Jaume I located at the Plaça d'Espanya (20:00 h.).
