'Green shoots' by Eva Lootz

In politics, the green shoots are a metaphor used to indicate signs of economic recovery after a crisis. It was coined by Norman Lamont, as Minister of Finance in the UK during the 1990-1991 recession.

The term is now taken over by the Austrian artist Eva Lootz (Vienna, 1940) in this exhibition to reflect on the devastating effects of the economic crisis and policy cuts conducted by the government in the middle class and the world of culture in general. It features sculptures and drawings, including the series Diario de los recortes (Journal of cuts).

Eva Lootz, who has resided in Madrid since 1965, proposes in Brotes verdes (Green shoots) the involvement of visitors through an original barter. For every kilo of copper-colored coins (1, 2 and 5 cents) the artist will give a picture to A4 size. The coins are arranged in small piles on the floor of the gallery, one for each drawing exchanged. All of them will serve in the future to perform a new work.
