Fray Junipero Serra was born on November 24, 1713 in Petra (Mallorca) in 2013 fulfilling the third centenary of his birth. This Franciscan is the architect of evangelization and colonization of Alta California, in the United States, where he founded more than twenty missions.
El Año Fray Junípero Serra (The Year Fray Junipero Serra) is a project launched to commemorate this anniversary and includes an extensive calendar of events around this figure of Blessed, which will be developed until November 24, 2013 in different parts of the island.
Activities include these guided visits by writer and researcher Tomàs Vibot. The tour includes the birthplace, example of popular Mallorcan architecture of the XVIII century, Centro Junipero Serra, the Convent of San Bernardino, where he was schooled, and ermita de Bonany (Bonany chapel), where the Blessed delivered his last sermon before departing to America. The tour lasts two hours.
