The House of Culture Can Prohens commemorates the centenary of the birth of the Mallorcan sculptor Jaume Mir (Felanitx, 1915-Palma, 2012) with this exhibition featuring unseen works by the artist along with sketches and preparatory studies of some of his pieces.
Mir studied at the School of Fine Arts in Madrid and, between 2003 and 2007, was president of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de Sant Sebastià de Palma.
Jaume Mir left a lot of work in which he takes the old characters from mythological stories and legends of the Mediterranean environment as model. His most known piece outside of Mallorca is the public statue of Miguel de Cervantes, raised in Lepanto, Greece.
