Curated by art critic Carlos Jover, Es Baluard and the Institut d'Estudis Baleàrics present the first institutional exhibition around the figure of José Manuel Broto (Zaragoza, 1949), who has been residing in Mallorca for years. In the late seventies, Broto was one of the protagonists of the recovery of abstract painting in Spain.
Broto. Grandes Partituras (Broto. Big sheet musics) hows a selection of works by the artist between 2004 and 2012 that are based on the influence that music has had on the development of his work. Deliberate abstract compositions have its semantic charge in the way the notes on a staff do so in the language of music.
