'Mantra', by Stockhausen

This commitment to contemporary music, with musicians from the island, closes the 55rd Festival de Pollença. A concert in which will merge the piano, by Mallorcan Tomeu Moll-Mas and Albert Diaz (Alter Face), and electronics, with the Chilean composer Remmy Canedo (Reactive Ensemble).

Mantra is a work for two pianos, two ring modulators and percussion instruments (Chinese boxes and pit vipers) composed by Karlheinz Stockhausen between Osaka and Kürten (Germany) in 1970. It is a mixed composition that combines acoustic instruments with electronic resources (the ring modulation) that interact live.

In the version of Alter Face and Reactive Ensemble, which now can be heard in Pollença, the analog ring modulator devised by Stockhausen is processed with digital media software designed by Remmy Canedo. This version was premiered at the festival Musik der Jahrhunderte Stuttgart in December 2014.

Under the artistic direction of Joan Valent, the 55rd Festival of Pollença is held from August 4 to 27 in the Claustre del Convent de Sant Domingo.
