Fourth concert of the VII International Music Festival 'Vila de Santanyí'. The Mallorcan soprano María José Montiel performs together with the Orquestra Simfònica Illes Balears, under the orders of its titular director Pablo Mielgo, in the parish church of Sant Andreu de Santanyí.
The concert is also celebrated to commemorate the XXX Anniversary of the Orquestra Simfònica Illes Balears (OSIB), created in 1988 under the Fundació Público de les Balears per a la Música, of which the Palma City Council, the Balearic Government and the Consell de Mallorca. Since 2014 its principal director is Pablo Mielgo, who is also artistic co-director of the Philharmonic Academy of Medellín and artistic and musical director of the Fundación Saludarte.
For her part, Madrid's María José Montiel is one of the most acclaimed mezzosopranos today. Following her acclaimed interpretation of Carmen, María José Montiel has sung in theaters in Switzerland, Italy, Russia, Germany, France and Japan. She won the Premio Nacional de Música 2015.
