'Meet Junipero Serra'

Fray Junipero Serra was born on November 24, 1713 in Petra (Mallorca) in 2013 fulfilling the third centenary of his birth. This Franciscan is the architect of evangelization and colonization of Alta California, in the United States, where he founded more than twenty missions.

El Año Fray Junípero Serra (The Year Fray Junipero Serra) is a project launched to commemorate this anniversary and includes an extensive calendar of events around this figure of Blessed, which will be developed until November 24, 2013 in different parts of the island.

Activities include the Cycle of conferences Conoce a Junípero Serra (Know Junipero Serra), held at two different venues: the Assembly Hall of the Royal Academies of Palma and Junipero Serra Center of Petra.

31.01: El siglo XVIII mallorquín, escenario de nacimiento y educación de Junípero Serra (The Mallorcan XVIII century scenario of the birth and education of Junipero Serra), by Pedro de Montaner Alonso, vice president of the Academy and Director of the Historical Archive of the City of Palma.

27.02: Junípero Serra: de la Mallorca ancestral a la nueva California (Junipero Serra: from ancestral Mallorca to the new California), by Román Piña Homs, president of the Real Academia Mallorquina de Estudios Históricos, Genealógicos y Heráldicos  (Royal Mallorcan Academy of Historical, genealogical and heraldic Studies), and professor emeritus at the UIB.

21.03: El largo camino del padre Serra (The long road of Father Serra) (1713-1784) and la colonización de California (the colonization of California), by Jochen Kromberg, engineer, scholar of the junipero legacy and member of the Rotary Club Palma Junípero Serra.

25.04: Un acercamiento a la genealogía de Serra. Sus ancestros y marco familiar (A look at the genealogy of Serra. His ancestors and family frame), by Mateu Cerdà Martin, educator and genealogist.

30.05: Estructura psicológica de la personalidad juniperiana (Psychological Structure of the personality of Junípero), by Joan Sureda Trujillo, a member of the Royal Academy of Medicine of the Balearic Islands.
