The Messiah, choral concert of Georg Friedrich Händel (1685-1759), has become in the last decade in a traditional appointment at Christmas in Palma. This production of the musical association Art Vocal Ensemble presents a Messiah in reduced format with 22 singers, five instrumentalists and four soloists.
Handel's Messiah is the first work in the history of Western music that has not stopped being performed since its premiere in Dublin on April 13, 1742. Although custom links the work with Christmas, it must be remembered that this oratorio is not only about the birth of Jesus, but about his whole life. Most of the booklet, written by Charles Jennens, is taken from the Old Testament.
Under the direction of Llorenç Gelabert, the soloists Anne Leohold (soprano), Ariadna Vila (countertenor), Guillem Grimalt (tenor) and Elías Benito-Arranz (baritone), Cor Art Vocal Ensemble, Quartet Johannes Palaschko and organ.
Three hours before the concert there will be a lecture by teacher and singer Joan Riera Salom.
