Orquestra Simfònica de les Illes Balears

The current chief conductor of the orchestra 'Ciutat de Palma', Josep Vicent, directs this seventh concert of the season devoted entirely to The Songs of the Earth, a song cycle as a symphony composed by Gustav Mahler.

The Bohemian-Austrian composer conceived it as a large-scale work for two vocal soloists and orchestra, although in the Auditorium we’ll hear the version for chamber orchestra started by Arnold Schoenberg and which would be ended in 1980 by Rainer Riehn. The orchestra is composed of a string quintet and a wind quintet, three percussionists, piano, celesta and harmonium.

As soloists will perform mezzo-soprano Lorena Medina and tenor José López Ferrero.
