First International Asteroid Day

On  June 30 of 1908 occurred the last important impact of a celestial body on the earth. It was in Tunguska, in Central Siberia. For this reason, on December 6, 2016, the UN declared  June 30 International Asteroid Day  to raise awareness of the danger of impacts with these objects.

On the occasion of the First International Day of Asteroids, Ses Salines City Council and the  Institut Mallorquí de Ciències de l'Espai organize a series of events in Colònia de Sant Jordi free of charge and open to all audiences on July 1 and 8.

1st of July
8:00 p.m. Centre d'interpretació de Cabrera:
Lecture Los Asteroides, by Jose Vicente Casado, expert in meteorites. In Spanish.

July 8
11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Plaça des Dolç:
Water rocket workshop: A family workshop to manufacture and launch a rocket with home materials, while learning the basics of physics and astronautics.

Planted telescopes: it will be possible to observe directly through several telescopes the moon, planets, galaxies and other objects in the sky.
