Traditional Thracian music in the new edition of the festival Canciones del Mediterráneo with the Rodopi Ensemble quintet. Crossroads between Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey, Thrace is the heir to a rich and ancient musical tradition where cultural borders are confused in a colorful mosaic of sounds and languages.
In the small Greek city of Komotini, almost thirty years ago the members of the Rodopi Ensemble got together to play music in all kinds of celebrations and popular festivities. Since then, the group has become one of the main references of the music of Thrace, with its repertoire of dances and songs.
Kyriakos Petras (violin), Nikos Angousis (clarinet), Alkis Zopoglou (kanun, zither from the Middle East), Yorgos Pagozidis (percussions: darbouka, dumbelek, def, riqq, bendir and toubeleki, a Greek drum) and Drosos Koutsokostas (voice and lute).
