The Italian composer Gioachino Rossini wrote one of the most famous versions of Stabat Mater, a work of the thirteenth century, attributed to Pope Innocent III and the Franciscan Jacopone da Todi, narrates the suffering of Mary and Mary Magdalene at the time of the crucifixion of Jesus. Rossini's work consists of ten movements and is written for four soloists (soprano, mezzo-soprano, tenor and bass), chorus and orchestra.
This production of Stabat Mater at the Cathedral of Mallorca is directed by Pablo Mielgo and intervening the Symphony Orchestra of the Balearic Islands, the Vocal Ensemble Pro Musica and the Capella Mallorquina. Act as soloists Agnieszka Ceglowska (soprano), Antonio Aragon (tenor), Pablo López (bass-baritone) and Waltraud Mücher (mezzosoprano).
The concert, sponsored by the Barceló Foundation, is held for the benefit of Farmàcies Solidàries Africa.
