'The World Goes Pop' by James Francis Gill

Along with Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, American James Francis Gill (Tahoka, Texas, 1934) is one of the icons of Pop Art. Gallery K of Palma presents this exhibition of original work, graphic work and designs inspired by his art.

In 1962, Gill moved to Los Angeles and that same year won recognition with the painting Marilyn Triptych, which John and Dominique Menil donated to the Museum of Modern Art in New York and thus became part of its permanent collection.

His international breakthrough came in 1967, when he exhibited his works in Brazil with artists like Andy Warhol and Edward Hopper. That same year Time Magazine commissioned him to portray the Russian writer Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn.

In 1972 James Francis Gill moved away from the first line of the art world to reappear in 2010 with a new creative phase, leaving aside political motivations of his early works and recovering the classic icons of Pop Art. Among the celebrities whom he portrayed, are Tony Curtis, John Wayne or Paul Newman.
