This opera in three acts by Giacomo Puccini, libretto by Giuseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica was premiered with great success in Rome in January 1900. The text of the play is based on Tosca, a drama written by Frenchman Victorien Sardou set in Rome occupied by Napoleon's troops.
This Production by la Asociación de Amigos de la Ópera de Sabadell (the Association of Friends of the Opera de Sabadell) has the musical direction by José María Moreno and stage direction by Carles Ortiz. With the participation of the choirs of Teatre Principal and of the Symphony Orchestra of the Balearic Islands.
It is interpreted, among others, by Italian soprano Fiorenza Cedolins, César Gutiérrez, Ismael Pons, Josep Miquel Ribot, Pablo López, Roger Berenguer and Menorcan baritone Joan Pons. Retired from the stage in 2012, Pons will only perform in a tribute function that will be dedicated to him the first day of representation, on March 30.
