Croatian music is represented at the Cançons de la Mediterrània 2022 festival by the Veja project, created in 2007 by a group of young people from the Ístria region led by Goran Farkaš.
The name of Veja is taken from the custom in Istria of candles to the dead throughout the night eating, drinking and singing. The idea of ??the group was to use traditional songs and melodies as a base but interpreted with a contemporary style and arrangements, using traditional instruments from Croatia together with others from other parts of the world.
Over the years, Veja has become one of the main innovators and promoters of Istrian folk and traditional music. The group consists of: Goran Farkaš (vocals; mih, Istrian bagpipe; violin; gadje, Slavic bagpipe; kaval, Balkan flute; and tambura, popular string instrument), Saša Farkaš (guitar, tambura), Marko Pernic (vocals, accordion), Sebastijan Demark (bass), Ljuban Rajic (cajon, percussion) and Marijan Jelenic (sound designer and engineer).
