A dozen works of renowned artist from Valencia Manolo Valdés can be seen in the gallery Gabriel Vanrell on the occasion of the Nit de l'Art (Night of the Arts). Born in Valencia in 1942, he lives in New York since 1989.
In the early 60's, Valdes, along with artists Gorris, Juan Antonio Toledo and Rafael Solbes, among others, and the art historian Tomas Llorens, formed the group Estampa Popular de Valencia.
In 1964, Valdés, Solbes and Toledo abandoned this group and created the Equipo Crónica (Chronicle Team). The new group emerged as a critique of individualism and the romantic image of the artist genius. Therefore, they dissolved their own personality as artists under the collective name.
After the death of Rafael Solbes, Manolo Valdés decided to start his solo career in 1982 with an exhibition at the Maeght Gallery in Barcelona. Throughout the 80s, he incorporated into his works a new sense that completely moved him away from his time with Equipo Crónica(Chronicle Team).
