This concert is part of the commemoration of the 300th anniversary of the birth of the Franciscan Junipero Serra a universal Mallorcan who founded several missions in Alta California in the United States, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sacramento and San Diego.
Under the direction of Rafael Nadal Bunyola participating will be the boys' choir of Sant Francesc, Coral Polifònica of Bunyola, Orfeó l'Harpa d'Inca, Cor i Cor Juvenil del Teatre Principal, Coral Santandreu of Santanyí and Camerata Orquestra de Llevant.
The program consists of three parts: Evocation to California, with well-known pieces by Leonard Bernstein, Henry Mancini and George Gershwin, a second dedicated to religious music of Mozart, Massanet, Franck Verdi, and a last-concentrated on music of Mallorca ending with La Balanguera, the official anthem of Mallorca.
Before the concert there will be a screening of the documentary El camino real (The royal path), filmed by Jaime Prades in 1964 that revolves around the work of Junipero Serra in the founding of missions in California.
