This famous play in three acts by Giacomo Puccini and libretto by Giuseppe Adami and Renato Simoni, opens the XXVII opera season of Teatre Principal. Puccini (1858-1924) left the opera unfinished and it was Franco Alfano who was commissioned to finish it, finally debuting in 1926 at La Scala in Milan.
The opera tells the story of Princess Turandot, who by order of her father, the emperor, should marry the prince who can resolve a number of puzzles. Otherwise, he will be beheaded. Turandot was banned for decades in China and it was not until 1998 that it was staged in the Forbidden City, with musical direction of Zubin Mehta and stage direction of Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou.
This montage is a production of the Teatre Principal de Palma involving el Cor del Teatre Principal, el Cor Infantil del teatro and the Symphony Orchestra of the Balearic Islands. The musical director is José María Moreno and stage director Paul Lopez.
